Letter from our new Elementary Principal, Kathryn Page

Dear Orcas Island Elementary Parents,
Greetings from Arizona! My name is Kathy Page and I am thrilled to share with you that I will be serving as your new principal for Orcas Island Elementary for the upcoming school year. My husband and I are both very excited about returning to Washington at the end of June. I write “returning” because I was born and raised in Washington, completing my BA at Central Washington University and my MA at Whitworth College. I am quite sure that the 1,585 miles that we will be driving in order to return to Washington will seem like nothing at all because it will feel like we are coming home after a very long journey.
“Time flies when you are having fun!” is so true. I have been in the field of education for 25 years with 13 of those years spent as a principal. Most of my years as an administrator were spent in Washington for grades K-8. My husband was stationed at Fort Campbell in TN-KY with the 101st Airborne so I did serve as a principal in the “Volunteer State” for a period of time. Life has certainly been an adventure!
I would like to thank Supt. Kline and Principal Freeman as well as the staff, parents, and community members for the warm welcome during the interview process. At the end of the process I genuinely felt like I had found my “home”. A couple things are abundantly clear to me as I begin my principalship at Orcas Island Elementary. First, the staff is a committed, focused group of professionals who are working hard with the parents to make a positive difference in the students’ lives. Second, the parents are active participants in their students’ education! The team approach to education with the parents, community, and school working together is something I believe in and will support whole heartedly!
I am hoping I will be able to meet some of you this summer as my husband and I will be out at the local events enjoying the beauty of Orcas with all of you during the summer months.
I hope the remainder of the school year is wonderful for each and every one of you. Please know that someone in Arizona is counting down the minutes until she can be there with all of you.

Estimados Padres de la Escuela Primaria Orcas Island,
¡Saludos desde Arizona! Mi nombre es Kathy Page y me emociona en compartir con usted que serviré como la directora de la Escuela Primaria Orcas Island este próximo año escolar. Mi esposo y yo estamos muy emocionados por poder volver a Washington a finales de junio. Escribo “volver” porque nací y fui criada en Washington, terminando mi licenciatura en la Universidad Central de Washington y mi maestría en la Universidad de Whitworth. Estoy absolutamente segura que las 1,585 millas que conduciremos para llegar a Washington se irán volando porque nos sentiremos como que estamos regresando a casa después de un viaje muy largo.
Definitivamente el tiempo ha pasado muy rápido. He estado en la profesión de educación por 25 años. Trece de esos años como directora. La mayor parte de mis años como administradora fueron en Washington con los grados K-8. Después de que cambiaran a mi esposo de base militar al estado de Tennessee, serví como directora en el “estado voluntario” por un periodo de tiempo. ¡La vida ha sido realmente una aventura!
Quisiera agradecer a la Superintendente Kline y al Director Freeman así como al personal, los padres, y los miembros de la comunidad por la agradable recepción durante el proceso de la entrevista. Al final del proceso me sentí como que había encontrado mi “hogar”. Dos cosas que se me hicieron abundantemente claras al comenzar en la Escuela Orcas Island es que el personal está dedicado y listo para trabajar con los estudiantes y los padres para proveer la mejor educación posible. Segundo, los padres son participantes activos en educación de sus hijos. ¡Este trabajo de equipo entre el personal, los padres, y la comunidad es algo en que yo como directora apoyo y creo realizara máximos resultados para todos!
Espero poder conocer a algunos de ustedes durante el verano mientras mi esposo y yo empezamos a explorar la isla y a gozar de la belleza de Orcas con ustedes durante los meses del verano.
Espero que el resto del año escolar sea maravilloso para cada uno de ustedes. Sepa por favor que alguien en Arizona está contando los minutos para estar allá con ustedes.
