It was recently brought to our attention that someone received a call asking to support our Golf team. The person had a strong accent and did not give any indication that they were connected to the school in any way. If you get any calls, please make sure that you recognize names of students, coaches, booster members..etc. It is not likely that you will receive any fundraising calls from anyone who cannot tell you a local phone number and a name you recognize. The Orcas Island Booster Club Facebook page and website will have all the information and links to current fundraisers. Please call Sandi Harris, Athletic Director at 298-2387 with any questions. Thanks.

How would you like to taste Plantain Crusted Caribbean Chicken or perhaps some Pineapple Ham Kebabs with Caribbean Rice? Actually, you will be able to sample all twelve of the amazing recipes our student chefs will be preparing at the Third Annual Student Chef Competition. Presented by the Orcas Island Farm to Cafeteria Program, K-5 students start preparing their creations at 9:30 a.m. with awards for that group being given around 11:30. Grades 6-12 will be starting at noon with awards being given around 2:30. There’s no charge to come watch any time during the day and cheer for our incredible student chefs!
Thanks to our wonderful community sponsors for supporting this exciting event: Rose’s Bakery Cafe, Smalldog Network Solutions, Maxdigger Productions, Doe Bay Cafe, The Reed Family, The Lawlers, Chilada’s, Tim Blanchard and Peg Manning and the Orcas Hotel.

OIEF TO FULLY FUND BUS RUNS
The Orcas Island Education Foundation is happy to announce that it will donate the needed funding so that the busses will run every day for the rest of the school year. According to OIEF President Janet Brownell, “OIEF recognized the hardship a cut in bus service would place on many families, so we have dipped into our reserve fund so that this would not happen.”
This school year OIEF has facilitated almost $50,000 in donations to the OISD. These donations have funded staffing, the OPI trip, lab tables, the school library, busses, to mention just a few programs.
May 26th is OIEF’s fundraiser for the year. “Most of our donations come from the ‘Food for Thought’ event. If you support the Education Foundation, please come to our barbecue on the Saturday of Memorial Weekend. It’s a fun way to support our public schools.” says Brownell.
CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEE WEEK
MARCH 12 to 16th
Classified employees are all of the staff who are not teachers or principals or superintendents. A lot of these people have had their hours cut and need some extra appreciation this week.
