Two Levies, One Strong Future
On November 4, 2025, voters will decide on two levies for the Orcas Island School
District:
- 2025 Capital Project Levy
- 2025 Educational Programs and Operations (EP&O) Levy
These two levies will occur synchronously in order to ensure a flourishing future for our
students and community!
Why two levies?
State funding only provides for basic educational needs, leaving a significant gap in delivering the well-rounded education our families expect and our students deserve. Local levies bridge this gap by funding essential programs, staffing, and facilities, ensuring our students enjoy opportunities comparable to those in neighboring districts.
Each levy serves specific purposes, but together, they create a comprehensive approach to support our students.
PROPOSITION 1: Capital Projects Levy for Sitework & Safety Improvements
The Capital Projects Levy will fund much-needed improvements to the Orcas Island School District campus grounds.
Over the years, driveways, parking lots, and walkways have deteriorated, creating safety risks for students, families, and staff. This levy provides the funding needed to make long-overdue upgrades that improve safety, accessibility, and student opportunities.
Improvements include:
- Eliminate the potholes
- Paving driveways and parking areas
- Installing ADA walkways
- Upgrading LED site lighting
- Adding a shotput and discus competition area so OISD can host track meets
- OISD campus site and safety improvements
PROPOSITION 2: Educational Programs & Operations (EP&O) Levy
This levy will fund a portion of the educational programs and operations not funded or fully funded by the State of Washington. Local levy funding allows us to provide the quality education our community expects for our children, which goes beyond the minimum funding provided by the state.
The Educational Programs & Operations Levy helps pay for:
- Music, art, farm to classroom and outdoor education
- Athletics, clubs, and student activities with transportation
- Nursing and mental health services
- Special education programs
- Supplies and maintenance
