We have exciting news to share with our school community — the OIHS Vikings are the 2B State Chess Champions for the second year in a row!
This weekend at the 60th annual Washington State High School Chess Team Championships in Everett, our team competed against 52 qualifying schools from across the state and delivered an outstanding performance. Over two days of competition, the Vikings earned an impressive 14.5 total wins, securing the 2B State title once again.
Our championship team includes:
• Lamai Hons
• Colter Bond
• Thurmond Russell
• Elijah Griffith
• Leo Battles
• Tim Malo
Each round included five varsity boards, with scoring based on 1 point per win and 0.5 per draw. Here’s how the Vikings performed:
• Round 1 vs. Granger — 5.0 wins
• Round 2 vs. Lakeside School — 0.0 wins
• Round 3 vs. Mariner High School — 3.5 wins
• Round 4 vs. Cleveland STEM High School — 2.0 wins
• Round 5 vs. Bainbridge High School — 2.0 wins
